Slate Falls Outposts started operating in 1986 with 6 outpost locations.  Many years later we are still going strong.  We were industry leaders back in the day with “spare” coleman lanterns, mattresses not ‘foamies’, hand pump water at the sink, 3 burner counter top stoves instead of colemans, swede saws for the firewood and regular check flights.  You flew in on a piston Otter or Beaver.

JUMP AHEAD A DECADE

We are still leading our industry with new motors every 3 years, 4 burner stoves with ovens, on demand solar water at the sink, solar lighting everywhere. Each cabin now has a propane chest freezer in addition to the propane fridge and we introduced our first solar fridge.  Operating 10 sites now, all cabins with large decks, BBQs, cut up firewood and boat seats. You flew in on a Cessna Caravan.

JUMP ANOTHER DECADE

Our ‘every 2 days service flights’ are one of our signature services. Firewood now resides in a wood shed, indoor plumbing, covered decks, sat phones are now available to take with you. Outside fish cookers and boat slip docks are everywhere and we introduced the first turbine otter in the area.

JUMP FORWARD TO MORE RECENT YEARS

We have solar fridges and freezers at every location and the propane stuff is long gone. All the cabins have separate bedrooms and mostly no bunk beds anywhere if there is a bunk bed we have nice stairs to get up to it! Ryan is assisting me full time in the continued development and maintenance of everything.  Opening Hooker Lake up this year, rounding our total cabins up to 8, all the docks now have multiple hand rails installed for ease of getting in and out of the boat. Motors are all 4 stroke gas sippers now, with Lake St.Joseph getting all electric motors for the upcoming season!  Two turbine Otters get the groups in and out safe and efficiently.

JUMP AHEAD TO NOW

We are making more changes by adding new camps! In 2020 Arc Lake will be open and 2021 Carling Lake will be open to book dates. Another big change in 2019, Ryan has become a partner into Slate Falls Outposts and now runs all the day to day operations while Verne is still doing Camp checks and bush work. We have now added generators for charging depth finder and using personal items, CPAP machines for example, at every camp. The last few years we also added two way texting communication to get updates or put in a want list to get dropped off when we are in the area next.

JUMP AHEAD 10 YEARS

Seems like maybe some things would stay the same but maybe the biggest changes of all happened this last round! Verne has not shown up in years, he went missing after his last sasquatch guiding tour! I am sure he is doing fine and we wish him the best! We have some new permanent faces around, Rich and Shannon Hulina are running the float planes for us with there Son Brodie as the main Turbo Otter pilot. While Rich is flying his Baby JIR the Twin Beech. We have teamed up together and got another camp Roadhouse which brings our camp total up to 10 in 2024. While 2024 was also our first year having Red Pine Lodge back in the fold. Bringing these camps into the operation we needed some back up. So one of my best friends Richard Doudiet has become a crucial piece of the operation!  So what happens when you have a bunch of motivated people together that seems to be managing well? You add 2 more camps to the fold on Lac Seul! We are truly a one stop shop now for all of your fishing and adventure vacations. Whether you want to drive in, Fly in or boat in we have you covered, and don’t worry our number one priority is still customer service. While keeping our cabins and outposts at the top when it comes to high end vacations.
